About the move, Baszucki stated this was an “extremely difficult decision because where we live is a personal choice and it affects all aspects of our lives,” detailing that Roblox had done everything in its power to “make this process as systematic and fair as possible.”

Baszucki explained how the company debated the best way of returning to presential work, as Roblox was “an innovation company and we needed to get back to working in person,” even entertaining the idea of the company supporting a “heavily hybrid remote culture.”
Ultimately, what changed Baszucki’s ideas for the future of Roblox was the first post-quarantine, in-person group meeting, where he found increased productivity levels. Baszucki explained:

Lawmakers Urge Regulators to Work With Congress on Crypto Regulation
After the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled in favor of crypto asset manager Grayscale Investments against the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), a number of lawmakers have urged regulators to collaborate with Congress on cryptocurrency regulation.
On Tuesday, the Financial Services GOP posted on social media platform X:
Chair Gensler’s regulation by enforcement is unlawful and does nothing to protect consumers. It’s time for Biden’s regulators to work with Congress to provide clear rules of the road and robust consumer protections through legislation.
Congressman Patrick McHenry (R-NC), chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services, also posted on X: “SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s crusade against the digital asset ecosystem is falling apart under scrutiny from the courts.” Recently, a federal judge sided with Ripple Labs against the securities regulator in a case involving the offers and sales of XRP. The SEC has expressed its intent to appeal some parts of the ruling.
McHenry further stated that the SEC losing another battle in courts against crypto firms “is yet another example of why a comprehensive regulatory framework, like the FIT for the 21st Century Act, must be made law.” The House Financial Services Committee and the House Committee on Agriculture passed the Financial Innovation and Technology (FIT) for the 21st Century Act (H.R. 4763) in July.
The SEC and Chair Gary Gensler have been heavily criticized for taking an enforcement-centric approach to regulating the crypto industry.
Last week, Congressman Frank Lucas (R-OK) slammed the securities watchdog and Chair Gensler for taking a reckless approach to rulemaking. “Gary Gensler’s SEC is pursuing a reckless, rushed rulemaking agenda with inadequate economic analysis and limited public input — threatening to upend our capital markets,” he asserted.

BIS Survey: 93% of the World’s Central Banks Are Engaged in CBDC Work
The Bank for International Settlements (BIS), an organization that seeks to support the international cooperation of the world’s central banks, has released the results of its 2022 survey on central bank digital currencies (CBDC) and crypto. The survey found that 93% of the 86 banks surveyed were involved in CBDC-related work at different levels.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS), an institution that acts as the bank of central banks, has released the results of a 2022 survey on central bank digital currencies (CBDC) and crypto. In a recent paper titled “Making Headway,” the institution reports that 93% of the 86 banks included in the survey were “engaged in some form of CBDC work and more than half are running concrete experiments or working on pilots.”
The paper states that these numbers show the uncertainty regarding the issuance of CBDCs in the short term is fading. However, through their research, some of these central banks are less likely to issue a retail CBDC in the next three years, while others are more likely.
However, the concept of wholesale CBDCs, which would be used as a payment rail between private banks, is gaining acceptance, as the share of the central banks likely to issue this kind of currency has more than doubled since the last survey.
The reasons for issuing CBDCs vary, but the document identifies the enhancement of cross-border payments as one of the drivers of CBDC work and research. However, in emerging markets and developing economies, the CBDC research is more driven by “financial inclusion-related motivations.”
On Crypto and Stablecoins
The emergence of stablecoins and cryptocurrency assets has moved the traditional finance world to innovate. The survey found that 60% of the central banks consulted have accelerated the work on CBDCs due to the existence of these alternatives.
The issuance of stablecoins has also worried currency issuers about the possible effects on their economies. According to the BIS poll, 70% of these central banks are researching the instability that stablecoins could cause in their economies, and 40% have studied the share of usage that crypto assets and stablecoins have in their jurisdictions.
However, stablecoins and crypto assets are hardly used away from decentralized finance platforms and cryptocurrency trading exchanges. Central banks reported that, only rarely are they used to complete remittances and retail payments.

Judge Postpones Asset Freeze as Binance US and SEC Agree to Work on Deal
A judge in Washington decided to give Binance US and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) time to work out a deal to avoid the freezing of the exchange’s assets. The two sides are close to an agreement that will protect customer funds without paralyzing the crypto trading platform.
Crypto Exchange Binance US and SEC Near Compromise to Avoid Asset Freeze
Binance US, the United States-based subsidiary of the world’s leading digital asset exchange, Binance, and the U.S. securities regulator, the SEC, have agreed to work on a deal which would spare the court from the need to decide whether to freeze the platform’s assets.
During a hearing on Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson announced that the exchange and the Commission “aren’t that far apart” on a compromise ensuring that billions of U.S. dollars’ worth of customer funds are protected without crippling the crypto business.
The SEC had requested a temporary restraining order for the assets on Binance US for the duration of a lawsuit it filed against the entities operating Binance and Binance US, as well as their founder, Changpeng Zhao, in which they were accused of mishandling users’ funds and misleading investors and regulators.
The exchange’s defense attorneys sought its rejection, alleging that the regulator “manufactured” an “emergency.” At the hearing, they insisted that customer assets are safe, emphasizing that blocking transactions would in fact hurt customers. A lawyer was also quoted by Bloomberg as stating:
We are not willing to accept the death penalty eight days into our case.
The defense team argued that Binance US needs to be able to cover its business expenses, including paying employees and vendors. Judge Jackson agreed that shutting down the exchange “would create significant consequences not only for the company but for the digital asset markets in general.”
Jackson also said that if the two sides strike a deal, she would no longer need to rule on the SEC’s request. “The nitty-gritty of it is better handled by you than by me,” she reasoned while referring them to a magistrate judge in order to finalize the agreement.
The SEC lawsuit alleges that transferred customer funds to an entity controlled by Zhao and that they were later used to buy and sell cryptocurrency. The compromise proposed by the exchange envisages moving crypto assets of U.S. customers to new wallets that would be under the control of U.S.-based officers at Binance.US. The SEC’s proposal is similar, to require Binance to repatriate customer assets to the United States.
